The most economical option. It requires more time and transfers, but it is the authentic way to travel like Guatemalans.

The journey from Antigua to Panajachel crosses some of Guatemala's most spectacular landscapes:

  • Los Encuentros: an important highland crossroads at 2,500 meters above sea level, with panoramic views when clear
  • Sololá: departmental city with a very active Kaqchikel indigenous market, especially on Tuesdays and Fridays
  • The descent to Panajachel: the last 10 km descend along a winding road with the first views of the lake and volcanoes

How much time to dedicate to Lake Atitlán from Antigua?

With a minimum of 2 nights at the lake, the experience is much more complete. The first day you can explore Panajachel and its surroundings. On the second day, take a boat to visit San Juan La Laguna, Santiago Atitlán, or San Pedro La Laguna.
