Lake Atitlán can be visited year-round, but timing transforms your experience. The climate splits into two distinct seasons: the dry season (November–April) and the rainy season (May–October).

Dry Season: November to April

This is the best time to visit Lake Atitlán. Clear skies, spectacular views of the three volcanoes, and easy access to all villages. December and January are peak season. For fewer crowds, choose November or February.

Rainy Season: May to October

The Xocomil Wind

The Xocomil is Lake Atitlán's defining weather phenomenon — a strong north-to-south wind that picks up between noon and 4pm, especially during the dry season. It can generate 1–2 meter waves. Always take boats before noon.
