Preguntas frecuentes

How many days do I need to visit Lake Atitlán?
With 3 days you get the basics: Panajachel, the boat tour through the villages, and a viewpoint. With 5 days you can calmly explore San Pedro, San Marcos, and Santiago. 7 days or more allow for volcano hikes, diving, and visiting less touristy villages.
What's the best town to stay in on the lake for a week?
Panajachel as a base for 3-4 days (better transportation) and then move to San Pedro or San Marcos for the remaining days. This combination gives access to the widest variety of activities and environments on the lake.
What activities are a must-do in Lake Atitlán?
The essentials: boat tour through the Mayan villages, hiking up to the Cerro de Oro or Atitlán Sendero viewpoints, visiting the Santiago Atitlán market, kayaking at dawn, and exploring San Marcos La Laguna for retreats and wellness.
Can the lake be done in a single day from Antigua?
Yes, it's possible as a full-day excursion. Shuttles depart at 7 am from Antigua and return at 6-7 pm. However, one day is very little time — ideally, you should stay at least 2-3 nights to make the most of the destination.
