Getting from Guatemala City to Lake Atitlán is straightforward. The gateway to the lake is Panajachel, located 148km from the capital — about 2.5 to 3 hours away.

Option 1: Tourist Shuttle (Recommended)
The most comfortable and reliable option. Shuttles depart from hotels and agencies in Zones 1, 10 and the airport.
- Price: Q150–Q250 per person (US$20–35)
- Duration: 3–3.5 hours
- Departures: 7am, 8am and 1pm approximately
- Book: At least 1 day in advance
Option 2: Direct Bus from Zone 4
Transportes Rebuli and similar operators depart from Zone 4 bus terminal.

- Duration: 3–4 hours
- Departures: Every hour from 5am to 5pm
- Destination: Direct to Panajachel

Option 3: Via Antigua Guatemala
The most popular route for international tourists — stop in Antigua Guatemala before continuing to the lake.
- Guatemala City → Antigua: 45 min by shuttle (Q70–100)
- Antigua → Panajachel: 2–2.5 hrs (Q100–150)
- Total: ~3.5 hours with stopover
Option 4: Car Rental
Drive the CA-1 (Pan-American Highway) to Los Encuentros, then CA-11 down to the lake.

From La Aurora Airport
- Direct shuttle airport → Panajachel: Q200–300, 3–4 hours. Available at arrival hall counters.
- Via Antigua: Good option if you want an overnight in Antigua first.
Timing Tips
Leave before 7am or after 9am to avoid CA-1 traffic. Arriving in Panajachel before noon means you can catch boats to the villages during calm morning hours.
